There was once a big city preacher of some no small reputation as an orator. It is said that people would travel for miles to hear him speak. Now there was a revival meeting being held. It had been advertised for weeks. It was being held at a small country church that had enough land for the tents and for parking. However, the local pastor had not been invited to speak. Instead, this famous orator, the big city preacher, was considered the main attraction. People came from miles around.

Now the big city preacher found himself loosing his voice an hour before the service was to start. People where already coming and filling the tent. As the time for him to preach came closer and closer, his voice got worse and worse. Finally it was time to start the service, so the local pastor walked up to the stage among some mutterings from the crowd. Taking the stage, he turned to the crowd and announced that the speaker, the big city preacher, was not going to be able to speak. There was more grumbling and people started to get up to leave. The organizers of the revival where getting very nervous.

Unperturbed, the country pastor said in a loud voice, “All who came to worship the big city pastor may leave. The rest of us will worship God!”

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. (Matthew 6:24 KJV)

Why do you go to church on Sunday? Do you worship God? Or do you worship the preacher? Or the music? If God, then why do you not worship him every day?
